Prescription pain-killers were the fourth most mentioned drugs at 14%, and cocaine was the fifth most mentioned at about 8%.

There is a wide range of treatment services available for people in Washington who are seeking help for substance use disorders. For those with more acute conditions, they may start with a medical detox, followed by an inpatient rehab program. Afterward, it is recommended to continue on with various levels of outpatient treatment, such as PHP and IOP. Some people will start with these levels if the do not fit medical necessity for residential care. Longer-term care for many months can be provided through weekly outpatient groups, individual sessions, support groups, recovery coaches and private therapists.

Drug abuse in Washington oftentimes goes untreated. Only about 11% of the state’s residents that struggle with illicit drug addiction ever enroll in a treatment program in order to overcome their dependence. Rates of enrollment for alcohol abusers are similarly low with only about 9% finding a rehabilitation program in which to recover. Most of these facilities are privately owned and operated but there are several publicly funded options as well. Within the facilities about 25% of the patients are recovering from drug addictions, 24% from alcoholism, and the other 51% from addictions to both drugs and alcohol simultaneously.
