California is one of the most confusing states for insurance coverage for both patients and providers, and Medi-Cal doesn’t help make it any clearer.

Drug Medi-Cal Organization Delivery System (DMC-ODS) – The DMC-ODS is a voluntary pilot program which offers California counties the opportunity to expand access to high-quality care for Medi-Cal members with an SUD. The goal of the system is to demonstrate how organized addiction treatment care improves health outcomes while decreasing health care costs. Counties that choose to participate in the system are required to provide access to a full continuum of benefits for people experiencing a substance use disorder that is modeled after the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Criteria.

While there are many inpatient and outpatient rehab centers and other treatment providers that may accept Medi-Cal, finding out who qualifies for what can be a difficult task. When looking for residential facilities specifically, there are typically waiting lists involved.

Locating Facilities that take Medi-Cal

One option is to use the Federal Treatment Facility Locator available through SAMHSA, either via their website or by calling their toll-free number.

Another option is to call the number on the back of your insurance card and looking for an in-network provider list or call the Medi-Cal SUD Treatment County Access Line.

Drug Medi-Cal is a treatment funding source for eligible members. In order for Drug Medi-Cal to pay for covered services, eligible members must receive substance use disorder (SUD) services at a Drug Medi-Cal certified program. SUD services funded by Drug Medi-Cal are listed in Title 22, California Code of Regulations (CCR), Section 51341.1. (d)(1-6). Title 9 and Title 22, CCR govern DMC treatment.
