Heroin and prescription pain-killers each make up about 10% of treatment admissions. Cocaine was the fifth most frequently cited drug in the state, making up for about 8% of recovery program admissions.
Treatment Admissions in New Mexico
On average, only about 15% of New Mexico’s residents that struggle with illicit drug addiction receive treatment for their dependence. Only about 11% of the state’s residents that admit to heavy alcohol use enroll in a treatment program. This leaves the vast majority of drug and alcohol abusers without treatment for their addictions. It is highly recommended that anyone in New Mexico looking to recover from drug or alcohol dependence seek the immediate help of a rehabilitation center.
In New Mexico, there are 127 different facilities offering recovery programs that help patients overcome addiction to both alcohol and drug addictions. Most of the facilities in the state offer recovery programs in conjunction with other mental health services, 86 of the 127 centers are run this way. The other 41 facilities in the state are exclusively for people seeking help with addictions.
